After L. Frank Baum died, Ruth Plumly Thompson took over Baum's position of Royal Historian of Oz. She wrote a book a year between 1921 and 1939. Her first book, the Royal Book of Oz, was published under Baum's name saying that Thompson expanded on Baum's notes. However, this was not true.
