In this story, Ojo and his uncle, the Silent One (who is descended from the ancient kings of the Munchkin Country), leave their house in the Blue Forest and journey to Dr. Pipt's home. Dr. Pipt, a crooked magician, is at this time finishing a batch of the wonderful Powder of Life. He intends to make his wife's servant, a patchwork girl, to come to life. However, while sprinkiling the powder on the new servant, the patchwork girl jumps up suddenly, making everybody back away. The result is that Ojo's uncle and Dr. Pipt's wife are transformed into marble by the Liquid of Petrification, and the Powder of Life is wasted on a phonograph. To save his uncle and Dr. Pipt's wife, Ojo, accompnied by the Glass Cat and the Patchwork Girl, set off on a journey to find the ingredients necessary to make an antidote to the Liquid of Petrification.
